What is Lipodissolve?

ASAL LIPODISSOLVE® is the name of a treatment with microinjections to induce fat lysis of the face and body without surgery. Lipodissolve is a procedure that was developed into its current form by founders of the American Society of Aesthetic Lipodissolve (ASAL, LLC) since 2001. The theory of Lipodissolve was developed much earlier by the founders, in 1990. Unlike many claims by physicians to promote their services, Lipodissolve did not originate from a medical doctor from neither Brazil or Europe. The theory originated during the 18 year scientific development of a cardiac diagnostic equipment where results from chelation therapy to reduce arterial plaque was investigated. In the United States Lipodissolve was imitated in mesotherapy from 2004 onwards without the known standardized protocols.

Lipodissolve is known as a potential replacement to minor surgical lipoplastic procedures. Good results can be achieved in only 1-4 sessions. The ASAL Lipodissolve was officially introduced to medical professionals in the United States in 2004.

dotLIPODISSOLVE can be used for various conditions such as localized fat reduction, skin-retraction, gynecomastia, xanthelasma, cellulite and lipomas. Some procedures give truly exceptional results in consideration of the mild and nonsurgical nature of the treatment. Many lipomas can be successfully reduced in 1-2 sessions by injections alone with excellent results.
The ASALMini-Lipo is an innovative procedure surgeons have developed with syringe suction for instant lipo.
LipoS is a method where Lipodissolve is used to shape and sculpt adipose to create a definition, ex. 'six pack abdomen'.

Why ASAL Lipodissolve and not Lipodissolve?

ASAL was the originator of the name "Lipodissolve". During the USPTO process, the name was misused and exploited by commercial interests and protocols were often altered.
ASAL Lipodissolve® has been registered and protected as a mark in 27 countries and solely refer to the original Lipodissolve procedure, protocols, and research supported studies.

Who can attend the courses?

Our LIPODISSOLVE courses are open to all medical professionals and their staff. RNs and staff can attend with their supervising physician at a reduced rate.

Does the treatment require the purchase of medical equipment?

dotLIPODISSOLVE does not require any use of adjunct medical equipment although Ultrasound has been recommended since 2004 as an inexpensive aftercare alternative. It is not necessary to use aftercare with treatments.

We do not encourage non-surgical equipment (ex MesoSculpt) that has been advertised for Lipodissolve use, simply because the manufacturer has not proven actual benefits and cost effectiveness with the combined use.

Many non-surgical equipment on the U.S. are too expensive to be a necessary adjunct treatment. Some do offer additional cosmetic benefits with the treatment,
but the high purchase price make it an unecessary accessory for clinics using Lipodissolve.

How does this course compare to other courses?

First and foremost, the Lipodissolve information you receive is authentic and accurate.

Unauthorized courses on Lipodissolve does not teach actual Lipodissolve but imitation procedures that lack consistent and standardized protocols or annual data. Often they will try and lean on research studies published by our faculty, while the advice they provide is inaccurate. Many of these courses actually teach mesotherapy, where PPC has suddenly been added to the treatment. Due to growing popularity of Lipodissolve, imitation procedures that lend the Lipodissolve name are growing.
Imitation procedures is a misrepresentation of Lipodissolve to the public and a misue of our business name.

ASNA holds the only authentic courses on ASAL LIPODISSOLVE in the country.

Can ASAL Lipodissolve for skin retraction replace a facelift?

No. These are two completely different treatments, for different indications.
LIPODISSOLVE
is very good for general skin-retraction, but it cannot aid to lift supportive tissue. People who need a face-lift have loose underlying tissue and only surgery can correct the problem. The ASAL Lipodissolve cannot replace extensive skin sagging but is more suitable for minor skin laxity.

Is Lipodissolve supported by research?

Yes. The therapy is supported by several clinical and University studies in 2005, 2006, and 2007 published in both Europe and the USA. LIPODISSOLVE is, without doubt, the cosmetic procedure of the future. Studies from 2003 noted a failure rate of less than 4% within four sessions whereas new users begin with an 8% failure rate. This was reduced to 1% in 2004 for experienced users. 72.41% of patients reported satisfactory results in only two sessions.
Studies on long-term effects on subcutaneous use are still needed.

Is the process that takes place with Lipodissolve actually proven?

Some media and even physicians claim that LIPODISSOLVE is not supported by any research data, and no evidence exist that it actually works. This is completely faulty and poorly researched journalism.

Visual evidence alone demonstrates clearly that that it works! But there has been numerous studies on Lipodissolve that include ultrasonography analysis, blood samples, case studies, histopathology reports, dispersion studies and so on. What is clearly visible in histological slides make it evident by science that Lipodissolve indeed works and reduce fat cell volume and cause cell wall disruption.
These published studies show the fact that fat cells are broken down and then removed by macrophages, which can clearly be see in the studies as “foam cells”. This is the critical action. The treatment "kills" or bursts the fat cells. We believe fat cells are mainly killed by the detergent DC [Deoxycholate] by breaking the cell wall. DC is contained in Phosphatidylcholine, amongst other substances, as a preservative. However, we do not agree to claims that DC is 'better' for this treatment or should be used on its own. We discourage the use of pure deoxycholate for this treatment due to its detergent quality, excess risks to other tissues, discomforts and slower lipolytic process.

We have the opinion that a supporting agent is needed for the actual lipolysis process to be successful.
The action from Phosphatidylcholine include:
1. protecting the neighboring structures from the corrosive action of DC,
2. facilitating lymphatic drainage of the released fat [this has been demonstrated in the intestine],
3. turning on some of the lipolytic enzymes, which convert triglycerides into fatty acids and glycerol for drainage through blood. Fatty acids and glycerol finally can be metabolized or deposited elsewhere in the body.

ASAL Lipodissolve contain a delicate blend of various materials, with the active ingredient being phosphatidylcholine.

What volume of clinical use stands behind the therapy?

In 2007 it has been estimated from feedback and other indications that more than 300,000 Lipodissolve procedures was performed in the USA.

How useful is Lipodissolve for plastic surgeons?

Plastic surgeons trained via ASAL have reported substantial benefits with LIPODISSOLVE. The ASAL Lipodissolve is a very effective treatment to correct post-operative deformities from lipoplasty. Or pre-operative to mobilize the fat and speed up the healing process.

Does the ASAL Lipodissolve replace surgery?

Both yes and no. ASAL LIPODISSOLVE cannot replace dramatic surgical procedures, whole-body liposculpture, or extensive skin tightening based on lax underlying tissue. But on the right body type with small to medium fat deposits, ASAL Lipodissolve can replace some surgical needs, and often accomplish good results without extensive downtime or the complications and risks realistic with surgery.

Is the ASAL Lipodissolve and Mesotherapy one and the same therapy?

No. LIPODISSOLVE is not a holistic treatment for intradermal use but a subcutaneous medical treatment solely intended to reduce the adiposity by injections. Lipodissolve is, in reality, a chemical lipolysis.
Mesotherapy was popularized in Sports Medicine and had no connection to cosmetic use. Rumours about ASAL Lipodissolve endeavored US physicians to try mesotherapy products for fat reduction. The problem with mesotherapy are many, including a lack of standardized pharmaceuticals and protocols since the treatment is based on a holistic approach where each case must be individually 'customized'. Mesotherapy has ben known to have poor cosmetic results with an excessive number of treatments, making it both costly and inconvenient for patients. In recent years, there has been efforts to try and incorporate Lipodissolve medications into mesotherapy to try and improve the results.

Doctors that are interested in an alternative and holistic treatment for conditions in Sports Medicine may find mesotherapy a positive addition to their clinical practice. In addition, Mesotherapy offer one of the few good treatments for skin rejuvenation of the aging skin. Mesotherapy require a lot of extensive and specialized training for success and to understand the complex use of the +200 medications involved in the therapy.
For liposculpture mesotherapy may not offer a sufficient solution. Some cases of mesotherapy for fat reduction have been known to cause severe skin necrosis and infections, conditions which are unknown with Lipodissolve.
The medications used in Lipodissolve are still not available in France where mesotherapy originates. The ASAL Lipodissolve is not mesotherapy.

Random Mesotherapy medications or protocols should not be used with Lipodissolve.

What are the limitations with Lipodissolve?

LIPODISSOLVE is suitable for small to medium fat deposits on patients preferrably having soft or 'liquidy' fat bulges. Lipodissolve has limited to unsatisfactory cosmetic results on large volumes of fat on obese body types, or on fat mixed with binding tissue. This treatment cannot replace extensive surgical procedures. The ASAL Lipodissolve cannot be used as a weight loss therapy. Lipodissolve may need additional care or show poor results on candidates with secondary fat, metabolic or thyroid disorders, or on candidates with generic fat deposits.
Lipodissolve will also not work on Visceral Adipose Tissue.
As with any cosmetic treatment, whether surgical or nonsurgical, a proper pre-evaluation is essential when selecting the right candidate for treatment. Lipodissolve does not provide instant results and often require more than one session, and is not a suitable treatment for all patients.

Is the procedure safe?

LIPODISSOLVE is extremely promising from a safety aspect. This may not be the fact with imitation procedures. The procedure is mild compared to most cosmetic procedures today. Studies and continued monitoring of effects supports a stable safety data of this procedure. Long-term studies are still pending. Rare, but potential risks include adverse allergic reactions against the medications or within contraindication groups.

Where can the medications be purchased?

The products used in LIPODISSOLVE can be purchased through licensed and government regulated US-pharmacies. All medications used in the ASAL Lipodissolve are prescription based.

Some drugs for specific indications discussed in our courses may not be approved for labeling and advertising for cosmetic indications by the United States Food and Drug Administration. They do, however, contain materials that have a drug master file with the FDA.

We do not sell any medications or equipment used in this treatment, but refer to our preferred pharmacy with a good track record for good quality pharmaceutical supplies.
